2009 Windsor Fringe Festival – Featuring: Jump! (Preview)

Downtown Windsor is the place to be this weekend and next, with The Windsor Fringe Festival, Buskers Festival and Blues Fest all happening at the same time. For anyone who doesn’t know what the Fringe Fest is, it’s a fantastic event offering an assortment of theatre delights from dramatic plays, comedies, artistic shows and stand up acts. It’s all happening at the Capitol Theatre and tickets are a low $10 or less if you buy passes for several plays at once. The perfect family event for budget conscious Windsorites. While you’re in the area you can also check out the Buskers (very talented street performers like jugglers and magicians) and the Blues Fest for some fantastic music and entertainment.

This year’s Fringe Fest features, among other excellent shows, the one hour play Jump! put on by a group of local E.J. Lajeunesse highschool students. I had the fortune to see a preview of this show before Fringe started and now that I’ve had a chance to sample some of the other shows at Fringe, I can say with confidence that Jump! is one of the top offerings at Fringe this year.

The two stars make great use of the intimate stage and simple set to give you the visceral feeling of being on top of a sky-rise building. When the two characters meet here, high above the city, we eventually learn that they are both planning to jump off and end their lives! What brought them to this point of desperation? Where will their growing feelings for each other take them? The play delivers a whip-speed pace and dark, witty jokes which keep the audience entertained and connected to the characters. Thoroughly entertaining and original, Jump! is a fantastic addition to the Windsor Fringe Festival for 2009.
